Being a parent so far has definitely had its easy times and its NOT SO easy times. One pretty darn easy time in this house was potty training Jordyn.
Jordyn was about two weeks shy from her "18 month birthday" when one night, out of no where, she yelled "pee pee". I looked over to see her pointing to her "pee pee" and said, "Yes baby, that is your pee pee." She then proceeded to yell, "No!", run to the bathroom, point at the toilet and scream, "Pee pee!" once more.
I thought to myself, "Really? Does she actually know what she is going to do and the proper way to do it?"
Of course by the time all of this took place she had gone in her diaper but I decided the next day to buy some potties for the house anyways.
We worked really hard at it. Asking her about every 30 minutes if she had to go and of course rewarding her each and every time she went.
The diapers were replaced with Princess pull-ups and no more tops or PJs with snaps. All clothing had to be quick!
About 4 months later she pretty much had it down with an occasional accident from time to time. I, however, wanted to eliminate the pull-ups as much as possible. So we decided to get her some big girl panties.
She got to pick them out and I am telling you- as soon as we made the change she was a CHAMPION. The accidents went from rare to almost non existent. She was so afraid of getting her "minnie mouse" underwear wet.
Here we are, a year later, and she is doing great. Pull-ups are worn at bed time only and, for the most part, if she goes to the bathroom before bed and we watch liquids before bed she wakes up dry. Accidents during the day are VERY seldom.
I knew with the new baby on the way I wanted to eliminate one batch of diapers and we did. And I must say- she was an excellent "patient". She has given us a run for our money with other things (sleeping is still a challenge to this day) but not this and THANK GOD!
Toilet training is now a new concept however. Jordyn is pretty independent and insists on going to the bathroom by herself. Therefore, I am training her to not use a whole roll of toilet paper when she wipes. I am training her to sit back far enough so she doesn't get wet when she goes. And just as of the other day, I am training her that it is, "NOT OK" to stick your head in the toilet.
Yes, that really did happen!
